Ancient Future Mash-Up - Michael Pilling

Postby thoughtofmike » Sun Dec 11, 2011 8:29 pm

Hi all...
So, here is a rough (very) sketch of my idea for the challenge. It's centered on ancient cliffs dwellings that were built into bluffs in the southwest US. Think Anasazi. What's above is the future, and I have an airport/spaceport in my head, but haven't fleshed it out yet. The bluffs with the ancient dwellings will allow me to play a lot with shadow and contrast of light. Thoughts?

This is with a number of cliff dwelling images pieced together. I'm still playing admittedly with where I want the horizon/eye level...

Interesting concept Michael! Seems like there's a lot of potential. Looking forward to seeing more updates =)

Thanks for the welcome (Tim isn't it?)...
(i hope I'm not jumping the gun as I haven't heard direct from Kaustav et all, but I started this one late and time is short)

So, here's two Wip shots. First is with a bit of a mid ground image to work from in, and same with clouds.

This one is with the clouds worked over (well, the first round:)

Next I'll have the future elements roughed in.

I will posting a couple more WIP images later on today, but this is where it's at now. I've spent most of the time setting the color tones, and still roughing in the future/city elements. There will be some foreground elements of this as well.

Here it is with all elements blocked in, and the image is reversed. There is still future foreground elements coming in still.

Here's where I'm at now. I've got some future/foreground elements put in now, and it's following pretty close to what I originally had planned. Been some scale tweaking which is ongoing.
But at this point, I'm going into heavy fix/polish mode. (I'm just noticing my tower seems bent, as an example....) I'm also towards the end going to be pushing the contrast and lighting at bit to ad some drama.

Two more WIP shots, one with most of the foreground/ancient in final stages, along with the mid ground and sky. The second is the same with the future elements put in, though there's a lot to be done with them still...well, with everything

Hi....
So, I'm very close to being comfortable to say I'm done actually, but the thread for the final entry thread doesn't seem to be up yet?
Anyways, I'm showing a couple final WIPs, and the last one is very close to being finished.
Cheers

Hey all. This is my final entry. I too am not sure I'll have a chance to submit it to the final entry thread when it goes up, but if I get the chance I'll move it to the proper place when I can? (I just want to make sure the final gets in)

I'll throw in that as an homage to the future/entry theme, the basis for the landing ship I put in is from an early NASA test plane :) . Good luck everyone and happy new year all....
