Ancient Future Mash-Up - Thibault Houdon

Postby Doki » Fri Nov 18, 2011 7:34 pm

Hi all =)
So this will be my WIP thread for the challenge =)
Here's a little sketch I've made yesterday and today. Basically my idea for now is to have the city separated by a big gap in the center of the image. On the left will be the old side of the city and on the right will be the futuristic side =) There will be a bridge to connect the two sides of the city.

Very nice concept! The only thing that concerns me is that, try to avoid the focal point being at the center of the Matte-Painting image. Keep it up! Will be waiting for your next update!

Okay, I haven't had much time lately, but I'm posting to say I'm still alive.
I've changed my concept and I've done this very very quick new concept :

So there's still the idea of a gap between the new city and the old one, and with 4 bridges (actually I think it's gonna be only 3, it's more dynamic and less symmetric).

Your horizon is still centered and your image is square. You could try cropping the top or bottom to offset your horizon to give it more interest. Plus, that would adopt more of a traditional film aspect.

Yeah, I know, I'm not gonna let it like that. I'll change it to a 16:9 format or something like that.
As for the center of interest, I'm going to change the sky first, and so I'll move my center of interest out of the center of the image.

Ok so I got more time to really start something. I've made the bridge in 3D just to have the shapes and I've cropped the image, changed the sized etc.
I'm not sure wether or not I like the color correction. I've also started to add the city in the background.

The sky replacement is looking good! The perspective of the 3D bridges are off; try to correct them! Will wait for your next update!

Yeah, I've never really tried to draw perspective lines, I'm going to learn this subject because I have lots of problems with the perspective.

You can get a great deal of knowledge from this video tutorial on how to create a simple two-point perspective by Karl Gude : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=felys-u4nfk.
